How to Ripen Avocados!

Picking out avocados at the grocery store shouldn’t be stressful. With a little forethought you will have perfectly ripe avocados in four easy steps.

Step One: Unripe avocados are hard, with their stem firmly in place. These are the ones to buy! This is so important - if you buy ones that are already ripe, they could be bruised all over and unusable.

Step Two: Place your avocados in a brown paper bag and put a banana inside and close. Leave the bag out at room temperature. The banana will start to release ethene gas that will aid the avocados in ripening.

Step Three: Every day check your avocados. You will be looking for the stem to easily come free and for the avocado to start feeling softer to the touch. The stem is really the dead give away here.

Step Four: Put them in your fridge for up to a week. It’s important to put them in the fridge as soon as you can so that it stops the ripening process. It will give you a longer shelf life!
