How to Make Hot Fudge Sauce

How to Make Hot Fudge Sauce

To this day, my mother tells the story of me as a 12 year old: I said we could share my hot fudge sundae. Of course, being 12, when it came I ate the whole thing myself. Not gonna lie, I haven’t stopped doing that, but I did learn to never tell people I’ll share!

This hot fudge recipe is rich, thick, chocolatey, and super easy. Remember though, the higher quality the chocolate you use is, the better the sauce will taste in the end. If you’re making this during COVID times, and you really can’t have a full blown sundae party, the leftover fudge can be stored in an airtight mason jar for up to two weeks! Which also means hot fudge sundaes on demand! Now that’s my type of household. (No, really, it’s my household.)

Hot Fudge Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup semi sweet chocolate, melted

  • 1/4 cup milk chocolate chips, melted

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

  • 3/4 cup half and half

  • 4 tbsp butter, cut in cubes

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp vanilla paste or extract

Directions

  1. Whisk melted chocolate, cocoa powder, and half and half in a medium saucepan over medium low heat. You want to make sure to whisk continuously to ensure your chocolate doesn’t burn.

  2. Once the mixture is smooth, add the butter, sugars, and salt. Bring to a simmer to thicken for about five minutes, stirring frequently. You don’t have to do it for the entire five minutes, but you shouldn’t be going far. It can thicken quickly. If something happens and the bottom burns, it’s ok! Just take it off the heat, strain it through your finest strainer and continue to step three.

  3. Finish with vanilla paste and use on your favorite ice cream or as chocolate fondue.
