Homemade Waffle Recipe

Waffles are the best foundation for a delicious breakfast. It doesn’t matter if you like salty or sweet to start your day, a waffle can be the crunchy yet soft and fluffy base you are looking for. My husband likes to pile his high with whip cream and lots of berries, I’m personally more into a savory edition like sauteed spinach, roasted tomatoes, and sunny side up egg! 

The best part is, once the waffles are made everyone can choose their own adventure! Plus, you can take extra waffles and freeze them in individual containers and have delicious waffles whenever you want just by reheating them in the toaster. I love to do this, then when it’s the weekend we get to have an indulgent and fun breakfast without all the dishes afterwards! Well, there are some, but not nearly as many and since zero is pretty impractical, I’ll consider a few a win! 

Homemade Waffle Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 3 large eggs, separated

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1/2 cup canola oil

Directions

  1. Whisk to combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. In a medium bowl whisk together egg yolks, milk, and oil. Combine the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients.

  2. Whip egg whites in a medium bowl to stiff peaks. Gently fold into the batter. If the batter is a little too thick (you aren’t getting perfect squares because the batter is flowing enough) add a smidge of milk. Bake in a preheated waffle iron according to the directions from your manufacturer.

Want to save some in your freezer for a fun breakfast without the prep? Just cool them all the way and place between layers of parchment or wax paper in resealable plastic bags and freeze. Then you can just pop them in your toaster oven until crispy!
